...by any other name would smell as sweet.

For many reasons, some of which many of you have already considered and acted upon yourselves so you already get it, which are mostly pointless and uninteresting to detail or relate, I've decided that it's time for an LJ name change.

Yes, I know, I know, I've gone through this before and didn't do it... got everyone all ramped up and friending some name that never got activated, or threw out a poll in which it was overwhelmingly determined that I should NOT change the LJ name. False starts, halfway measures, not closing the deal, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera ... (that last part works well if you hear it in your head as if Eddie Izzard was saying it in his inimitably blase way).

And yet... while I am and always will be Tombeaux to my wife, thusly named by her mother (who many of you will remember as a woman made of the most pure Platonic ideal of Awesome that there ever was, will, or can ever be), it does not fit what I want for my LJ. This doesn't have to make sense to you, although for some it will. I know this is how I was introduced to many, if not most, of you, and I will certainly still be Tombeaux to whoever still calls me that.

But to quote that brilliant sage Rafiki: "It is time".

And so, without further ado, the new LJ name will be ... (drum roll, please)... (wait for it)... (wait for it)... animadversio!

The conversion will take place over the next couple of days, and some of you will allready find that you've been "friended" by the new name. If you'd like to continue to read me just as you are now, by all means, please add animadversio to your Friends list. If not, that's OK too... perhaps you've been looking for a good reason to finally drop me. No hard feelings... as a matter of fact, I will likely be doing the same in re: housecleaning, as I will be blowing out every name on my Friends and Friends Of list in favor of a clean slate.

Now, there will be some folks who will not see this message, as there are some folks who I do not intend to "re-Friend" on the other side. This does not mean I do not wish to remain their friend "in real life", it simply means that it is very likely that the things that we have in common are not as plentiful as they once were, and that I am probably a lot less interested in reading their LJs than I was at one time. I'm reasonably certain that for most, if not all, of these folks, the same is true of them when it comes to me. And that's fine. I'm probably doing them a favor, which is cool.

This also means there might be a significant other, or a sibling, or a good friend of yours that isn't going to see this message, which means they will simply see me disappear off the LJ map. Which means you'll be on my Friends list... and they won't. It is not my intent to cause drama with this, and I am certainly not asking anyone to keep a secret, or not tell anyone my new name, or anything like that.

All I'm doing is changing an LJ name, and starting over with a clean slate. It is not my intention to put anyone in a difficult place with this, so please do NOT assume that's what I'm doing. If, however, that's what ends up happening with you, please know that I am truly sorry, and it's NOT what I intended to do... but I am going to do it nonetheless.

You can fault me, or fault the folks at LJ for using such meaning-laden words as "Friends" and "Friends Of" to describe what is essentially a pairing of RSS links. I'd prefer you blame the latter, but I totally get why you'd point that at me instead.

But I digress.

In any event, because any name said thrice has power, or so the old legends hold, the LJ name to friend if you want to continue to read (and be read) by me is animadversio.

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, and this is the way it has to be for me.
